Pastor Hill’s ministry_____________________________________________
It is important to expose weaknesses in order to be released from strongholds…the devil can only hold us prisoner to what we hide.
Personal and spiritual discipline is necessary, yet many, even most of us lack it.
Prayer (being prayed for) is not enough, we need to walk it out
How many of us have people in our lives who know not to contact us at a certain time because they know that that time of our day is dedicated to be spent with God? There should be things that people around me recognize as a discipline in my life.
Phillipians 3:7-8
1 Timothy 4:7-8
1 Corinthians 9:27
Everything I do, I should be reaping benefits from it.
Three Characteristics of a Spiritual Discipline.
1. Demanding – train yourself to be godly. Because it is demanding, we should be able to depend on each other to hold one another accountable to discipline.
2. Desired – you have to WANT it.
3. points toward GOD – He becomes my focus. How much time do I spend REALLY studying God’s Word?
Steps toward Discipline
1. Determine that I will become disciplined – God has commissioned me to be the spiritual authority over my house.
2. Develop spiritual sensitivity – walk through life with a God-consciousness
3. Improve my prayer life (Luke 11:1)
4. Deal with Sin – godliness is living for God. It means acknowledging and accepting where you are and taking steps to deal with it.
5. Worship with God’speople – this is the first priority of a man. Men (masculine) have a duty to learn to worship God because of their commission in #1.
Dealing with Temptation
1. God has made provision for temptation – He gave us a new law and a new covenant. Romans 8:2
2. God has provided a guide to lead us through unfamiliar territory (John 16:13)
3. God has given is a guidebook (2 Pet 1:3)
4. God has provided other guides – my brothers (and sisters) i must have relationships with other men.
With every temptation, God has provided a way out
1 Cor 10:13; 1 Cor 15:57; Eph 6:11
Three Types of Temptation James 4:7
1. Flesh
2. World
3. Devil
